If I understand your issue correctly it#s just a matter of linking one layer to another.

Animate the puppet using Duik. You will have the issue you mentioned – do not worry. Render the animation with the left leg hidden, then with the right leg hidden (both with alpha). Now you can sandwich the two animation layers and mask out the legs to get the desired parts to come on top and create the illusion you are after.

I am not aware of a plugin that can do the complex transitions in your example. Most likely it was done using well planned elements and animated masks or wipes.

For a more organic shake you need to shoot some footage of a solid light color background with some dark crosses on it and shake the camera to your liking. Then you can track the camera shake in AE and apply that track to your footage.

  • This plugin and technique can work:

also, there’s a lot of stuff you can do just in AE – an example of a much more simpler 2.5 D animation, all in AE a while ago:

  • The newer AE versions come with Character Animator- pretty amazing tool. I would recommend looking into that first.

  • Depending on the shot you can go about it a few different ways.
If the distortion you need to make the logo/text look like it’s on a slightly curved surface (airplane body) you can track the logo on and the use distortion tools like the mesh warp or bezier warp and /or Liquify to make them match the shape you need.
If you need a more complex shape then you can use FreeForm Pro to distort and displace in 3d space the shape and then track that on.
As far as making the surface of the logo/text have the same type of material properties like the plane material, you can use several transfer modes combined and/or pull a highlights mask and use that to affect the Logo/text layer. If you use a displacement plugin like FreeForm Pro, then you have access to Material properties and can use reflection maps to achieve the look you’re after.

August 11, 2016 at 1:21 pm in reply to: Add a photo to a video by special effects

I think you can do all of it with standard AE plugins.
First you need to do a 3d camera track and solve the camera. This will give you a AE virtual camera that will move the same a s the real camera.
Second you need to rotoscope out the foreground elements ( woman, car elements) to be able to composite them on top.
Thirdly you need to cut out the elements of the photograph – trees, ruins etc. – and build a 3d setup that your virtual camera can see as it moves.
Sandwich that between the full clip and the rotoscoped elements and play with opacity and transfer modes on the elements.

Have you tried a ripple distort on a adjustment layer with a masked middle?

August 8, 2016 at 7:14 am in reply to: Making a logo appear our of water…

For the most realistic effect you need to have your logo interact with the water somehow. I used Mettle’s FreeForm Pro to create water and a logo coming out of it. You could use the same technique and then match the perspective of the real water footage and blend the CG water in with the real water. Here’s an example (logo comes up from water at the end):

You do not need to buy the AquaPack or FreeForm Pro if you do not have the funds (and /or need the best results) – most likely FreeForm V2 would be enough. Create a water like depth map (use a b&w version of the water footage you already have) with the b&W logo fading up and you should be able to get a good effect.
