If the layer where you insert your video is a pre-comp, you may need to open that pre-comp and extend the duration to match the length of your video. Then go back in the main comp and drag the end of the video precomp layer to extend it for the full length of the video inside.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

It’s basically the same technique- you need to create the shapes by manipulating the stroke in Illustrator. Once you get a few shapes down you can animate them and pre-render with alpha. You can then change the color, size and timing, comp several shapes on top of each other and create the animation that reveals the text.

The text itself is revealed by a animated mask with a feathered edge. The animated organic shapes on top can be created by animating either Shape Layers or with a technique similar to the one in this tutorial:

One of the common techniques for this kind of effect, if no motion controlled rig is available, is to shoot a static shot at 4k with the actor walking twice in the shot- starting in the same point and then follow each direction one time. Camera travel/move and shake can be then added in post.

Several ways to do this, depending on how you need to composite the shot. If you need both masks at the same time, you can use Shape Layers. Instead of a mask draw and animate a Shape. Duplicate the Shape Layer and flip the x size (-100%).
Position the flipped layer.
Precomp both and use as Track Matte on your footage.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

October 31, 2012 at 6:21 am in reply to: Can you add or delete frames in a comp like you can in Adobe FlashNot exactly, one way to deal with changes in timing is to precomp your layers and then apply Time Remap to the precomp layer. This will allow you to tweak the animation – leave your audio track out of that precomp though.

October 30, 2012 at 12:01 pm in reply to: What to do with archival newspaper articleYou could create some simple templates yourself – create a solid the size of your articles and precomp that. Make the precomp layer 3d and play with position in Z space and rotation on the Y axis. Once done, duplicate that comp in the Project window as many times as you need it (the number of articles) and use it in a master comp. You can tweak the duplicate comps to have small differences in the animation.
