    Thank you that supportive insight.

  • OPTIBASE has a realtime HD mpeg encoder card for the mac. Not sure if it is Mpeg 4 or not. While the cow is a great place for help, you need more focused attention to find the right solution. I recomend contacting a system integration specialist. If you have someone else that installs a system, you have a someone to goto incase it has problems. I use Kenny Martin https://dvserve.tv/ . He is honest, knowledgeable, and won’t sell you more than you need. He reps a lot of different companys so he won’t push the product unless its the right one. He is San certified and platform agnostic. He speaks engineer and can break things down for the less technical. FYI I don’t get a commision just respect his work.

TUnder the modify menu there is a menu item Alpa type. the re are 4 choices none/ignore, strait, white, black. Select white and turn off the luma key and see if that helps. FCP is bad at guessing alpha channels so you have to tell it what to look for.

I agree with Matthew, I made the upgrade on my extra partition. So I can learn and use FCP 5 suite but I have the older trusted set to jump to if needed. I would not suggesting to boldly go into the upgrade, a gental tip toe is recommended.

Goto https://www.nattress.com/ and buy his standards converter. Works great at a great price. $100us is cheaper than doing at a post house. Email him with issues I am sure he would address any reasonable concerns you have.

  • FCP seem to be sluggish at the end of tape situations but I am reading off a camera not a deck. tiger just locked up on me while I tryed to to connect over a network. However I had put the machine to sleep with Final cut open. Sleep always has caused prolems when FCP wasn’t closed out. Rhe werid things is I can’t force quite the finder. However As per all advice on this forum, Tiger and FCP 5 Studio is on an extra drive so no mission critcal hit.
