    Hi Steve,
The audio files are connected to the video files. Should I rename both, or is there another way to do that?

Just so everyone knows, Customer service over at Boris was very prompt. I am very happy with Boris, both here in the forums and with their products.

5.3 is acting better than 5.1 in that I can now see the code bar, but it will not accept my code. I guess I need to call customer support correct?

I suggest reading Douglas Spotted Eagle’s Book,” Vegas Pro 8 Editing Workshop”. It is a great resource for intermediate users. I have it next to me (Sitting on the floor in easy reaching distance.) when I edit on Vegas. There is a huge section on editing audio with pictures and examples. I would also look at some examples from other editing systems that use envelopes, they work in a similar manner and a lot of the principles can be applied to any editing systems.

I am not sure what you mean by your email. I click on the capture button, the window comes up asking me what type of video I want to capture. It then opens what looks like a second external program to capture video. I am assuming that this is what you are talking about.

I can see the camera and capture the footage manually, but all the advanced capture functions are disabled.

I just want to make sure I understand this information correctly. Monitoring works fine with the beta drivers from the Black magic website.

Capturing works as long as you capture uncompressed files. But the compressed files that Black Magic captures don’t work in Vegas 8 although they will work in Vegas 7, and neither company will tech support the intensity card with the beta drivers.

    Dave,
There are two sources that I suggest you check out, both by Chris Vadnais.

I just bought “Boris Basics, Tips & Tricks” and Instant Boris Effects. They both are essentially the same thing, however if you learn better by seeing a video get Boris Basics. If you like reading better get Instant Boris Effects. Both have sections on working in Boris with Vegas. I suspect that you won’t be thrilled with the work arounds, but they function. I have been working with Chroma Keys for the last few days and the keyer works very well with the Vegas work around. These items are out of date and you can get the Instant Boris effects used inexpensively. It is my hope that someone from Vasst, class on demand, or even Boris would put out a new one.

April 23, 2008 at 2:34 am in reply to: FX Chromo Key and Vegas 8 Integration Issues.

    Hi Dave,
I had some similar problems to what you are describing when I first started with Boris FX. It took me along time to work through it, but I finally figured it out, and now I love the program. Re-read the read me file in the vegas folder. Double check to make sure your settings are correct. (For me my settings did not match my project settings and that fixed the problem.) I don’t know about Boris charging for help. Every question I have had here has been answered. Peter Mcauley has been a big help, you might ask for his help specifically.

My only other advice is to watch any tutorials you can find on Red and Boris FX online. They are extremely helpful. There is even a decent one on the chroma key filter under the Red Tutorial section on the Boris FX website.

    I hope that helps,
    Tony

March 13, 2008 at 5:12 am in reply to: Impressive VEGAS review in STUDIO

I am new to Vegas. I am an advanced Final Cut Pro user and Premiere 6.0 was my personal editing app until I could no longer make it work for what I do. I bought Vegas primarily based on price, the fact that it worked on my machine, and that Boris FX worked as a plug in. I was worried that I would not like it. I love it.

I prefer it to Final Cut.

I know I have barely scratched what Vegas is capable of doing, but the special effect capabilities of vegas far exceed my expectations, plus the fact that I can make sample level audio edits in my editing app without having to go to a seperate program really pleases me.

The interface took me a long time to get used to, but only because I was over-thinking it. It is not a simple interface, but it is very intuitive. It is also very fast. It is pretty easy to put together a project in a reasonable amount of time. I am used to three point editing, and giving that up to edit in Vegas was hard at first, but Vegas just makes sense.

Download the trial, and give it a run.
