Having trouble capturing Mini-DV
I am having trouble with the Sony Capture application in Vegas pro 8. I can manually capture, but all my advance controls are greyed out. I tried to follow Douglas Spotted Eagle’s suggestions in Vegas Pro 8 editing workshop, I eliminated the non-microsoft drivers and disabled the NIC 1394 setups in my control panels but then Vegas could not even see my camera (VX 2000). When I rebooted my computer the old drivers reinstalled themselves. I have a generic firewire card from Comp USA, I am using XP Pro, and followed the suggestions from Vegas Pro 8 editing workshop in setting up Vegas for DV footage. Any other suggestions?

Since you’re capturing DV, you ARE using the EXTERNAL capture app???

I am not sure what you mean by your email. I click on the capture button, the window comes up asking me what type of video I want to capture. It then opens what looks like a second external program to capture video. I am assuming that this is what you are talking about.
I can see the camera and capture the footage manually, but all the advanced capture functions are disabled.

I also have a VX2000 camera and have only had a problem once like that. I put in a new firewire card and it solved the problem.So it could possibly be a bad cable or card. Also do you have access to another camera you an try?
