    Alan,
Digital juice is offering a deal on a plug in set that has electrical arcs. currently it is 1/2 off and is priced around $200. It should work since it is listed on the Boris website. They are half off the Knoll light factory too, in case you need lens flare effects.

December 14, 2007 at 7:53 am in reply to: Rendering Question

If I understand his question he is looking to render a preview. In final Cut it is option R and in Premiere you simply hit the enter key. In Vegas I am running into the same problem, when I want to preview a complex effect. I can do it if I prerender a selected segment but it takes forever. I tried previewing to ram but that did not work for me. Any suggestions?

Ok I figured it out, I was placing the Alpha in the Mask of the Face track, not in the Map track of the fire effect. So that is now working.

I would like to know about the DE Lightning generator still though.

Yeah, I double checked, nothing on my disk either, nor under the plug in manager.

I will send you the files as soon as I can get them. Probably Monday.

I Figured it out. The issue was in Premiere. I went back to the documentation from FX 8 on the Boris site and used the premiere 6.0 setting and changed my fields to “none” and that solved my issue. Thank you for your time.

This makes me feel much better about my purchase. Thank you for looking into that for me. I will be purchasing Vegas soon, and I am also looking at either purcasing Graffiti or upgrading to RED next year.

I would like to say I disagree with your reasoning on keyframer being a “stand alone” product. It is a wonderful product and does exactly what it is supposed to do, but without being able to render out a movie it is not that useful in my situation. As a consumer, I was extremely confused by the advertising and by the tearm “stand alone”.

I am not bringing this up to complain, I love the product and what it is capable of. I just am having a hard time adjusting to the learning curve, and I am not sure if it is a setting or if it is an incompatibillity in my editing software.

    this is the situation:

I am adding FX 9 as a filter to video on my timeline.(Regular DV footage captured with a Matrox RT 2000 card.((Yes, I am way behind the times.))) I have created a spline shape around my object and it is perfect. I move it into the mask track on the timeline and that cuts out the object nicely. Everything is exactly the way I want it, sharp clean perfect. I hit apply, and then hit enter to render the effect on the timeline in Premiere, and eveything in the out line is blurry. I have checked and the global blur is off. I can’t figure it out.

Thank you for your time and your consideration of my situation.

I am by no means an expert but:

I am in the same situation.

As I understand it after my research into this, FX 9 is NOT a stand alone product. There are several misleading articles and instructions on the Boris website, but I don’t believe that was intentional. FX is very similar to RED and some of the instructions for FX where simply cut from RED and placed in FX and were poorly edited. It seems that with a few other additions RED is a stand alone product while FX is not.

The keyframer is a tool designed to allow multiple people to work on effects without having to buy multiple liscenses for FX. Unfortunately it seems to only allow you to save settings and export a targa file. Any rendering has to be done inside a “host” application like After Effects or Final Cut Pro. Fortunately FX works in many applications so there is a good chance it will plug into your editing program.

I don’t have a supported host, I am using Premiere 6.0. I have installed the generic plug in and it is working with some limitations. I am getting blurry results when I am rotoscoping. As a work-around I am using the “create alpha” filter to create a black and white Matte and am track matting my roto work in Premiere. It seems to be working for now, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

If I am miss informed, somebody “PLEASE” let me know so I can install the stand alone option.
