From the FCP menu bar, go to: View->External Video and make sure that it is set to ALL FRAMES.
Close the Log and Capture window if its open
Close the Edit to Tape window (if open)
Make sure that the FCP Viewer and Canvas zoom setting is set to fit to Window

To be honest, I don’t think you’re getting your data back. Unfortunately, the drive is hosed and fixing it is not an option. If the data is critical and cost is not a factor, then contact a company like Drive Savers and they will likely recover whatever you need (expensive): https://www.drivesavers.com/

Chris, it should work fine for your application, but its still relatively new for all of us. Basically, for what you want to do, its the only game in town for Outputting HD from the Macbook Pro. I would go see the MXO in action at a good local VAR or at a trade-show and decide for yourself whether the quality is acceptable for your needs (I think in most cases it is). If not, you’ll be hauling your Mac tower (with AJA card), monitor and other gear with you. Hopefully, AJA comes up with their own portable HD/SD output device for MacBook’s in the near future as I think that would fill a need for many people, and we know the quality would be excellent with it.
Here’s one thread about the MXO that may give you a better handle on it. Know that Matrox is not a very highly regarded company by many of the pro Mac users on the Cow because of things they’ve done (or not done) in the past. Can they repair their tarnished image with this device

I recommend you DO NOT have journaling turned on if you’re using your RAID for video. It can and probably will cause dropped frames or other problems. The only place you deal with journaling is in Disk Utility when you go to create the 0 part of your 50 RAID. So that is where you want to be sure and not use journaling.
Also in RAID admin be sure and turn on controller and drive write cache options, and turn off “Allow host cache flushing” and “Use Steady Streaming Mode.”
For the read prefetch I set it to 8 stripes (in RAID Admin), and in Disk Utility I set the blocks to 128k (although, the default 32k seems to work fine form most/all applications).

Yes, that would be a problem. The Io needs the whole Firewire bus. You have to get a Firewire card (or SATA = better) for whatever Mac you want to run the Io on with an external drive(including the Macbook).

Make sure the external hard drive is the only thing plugged into your Powerbook’s Firewire ports (the 800 and 400 share the same bus and are not separate – meaning they can interfere with each other). Using a Firewire card in your Powerbook for the drive would be a good idea. Also, I suggest making sure the firmware is up-to-date for the drive and checking with ProMax about any compatibility issues.
