I think we’ve had this AJA Io for a little over 2 years now, with much success. Recently, it’s been acting up. Now it keeps loosing connection with the deck. I thought at first it was the firewire cable, but after changing the cable, the problem continues. I’ve shut off and shutdown both Io and G5 (10.4.6 and FCP 5.0.4) with no luck. I used the AJA uninstall, and re-installed the non-universal version of the drivers. I used to have the Control Panel and while in the control panel it would sporadically turn red and say no hardware, which led me back to the Firewire issue. So I’m stuck. I have no idea what it could be. All my cables are new (within the last year) and I’ve checked and re-checked connections, etc. Has anyone had this trouble before? Where should I take it to get repaired if that’s the case? Any suggestions or questions? ANy help is much appreciated.

Call AJA, I believe it has a three year warranty.

    Thanks Tony and Jeremy!

I did suggestions, 2, 4 and 5, and I’ll try the rest tonight. Fortunately, we have another system that uses the AJA Kona LS so I was able to make my dubs/masters off of that one for now. I’ll keep you posted.

    Thanks again!

AJA are great. If they can’t fix your problem over the phone, they overnight a replacement unit
to you so you won’t be out of commission for days.

    Winston –
your MAC G5 has two firewire port – on the front, and on the back. Take the SAME FIREWIRE CABLE, and move it to the front firewire port – do you have the same problems ? If it’s now fixed, it’s the MAC G5. If you have the same problems, it’s the AJA I/O. Everyone else has given you correct advice – call AJA, and get a new box (if it’s not your MAC G5).

It is VERY COMMON for the MAC G5 firewire ports to “get loose” or go bad. Same with HP xw8200 computers.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I had tried that as well. My front firewire port is d*mn near useless, but my back firewire port is still good. I’ve connected a deck via firewire to the back port and it’s worked properly, but the AJA still acts up if it’s plugged into it. I believe it is time to call AJA. Thanks again to everyone!

So I called up AJA, and they are terrific! As it turns out, it had to do with a firewire driver that Apple makes for AJA. We saw that in my network prefs, the firewire option was grayed out. So we trashed some extensions, and receipts, i re-installed the AJA analog and digital drivers, restarted, and was supposed to see a non-grayed out firewire option. Unfortunately it was still grayed out, BUT since I now knew that I needed that checked, I just created a new Firewire option, named it firewire, and checked it. Problem solved! Thanks AJA, for getting my on track! 😀
