Looks like its Sony’s problem to me. I believe Dell already did a recall for similar batteries.

It sounds like you just don’t have the little source icons (to the left of the timeline) touching the destination icons for the audio tracks you want to put in the time line. Also, make sure that no audio is currently in the same area of the audio tracks you want to bring it into.

There’s about 5 places that fonts can be on your G5. It’s possible, that you have the same font, but from different makers on the problem machine. Fonts with the same name, but from different vendors are often similar, but different enough to cause issues like you’re experiencing. Also, you may have the correct version in your home folder, but the wrong version in you system font folder, etc. and the wrong version is getting loaded first. Anyway, that’s one possibility for your problem.

No, there’s no way to change it in the current version that I know of. Hopefully, that will be address in future version. I guess the non-solution, solution right now would be to use the Inspector to create a custom style for the fonts/styles you use most often.

Just so I’m 100% sure exactly why one would choose 64 or 128. So it’s an environment based decision and not hardware based? ie: I would pick 128k over 64k because of how big the files I am working with(video)…nothing to do with the model of the hard drive requuiring a certain block size.?
A larger block size means less reading to the drive so performance is improved even more? Then why not crank it all the way up to 512k or more?

What you are saying is generally correct as far as my understanding. However, I base my recommendations on tests I’ve done and what I’ve read others have done. The optimal block size does seem to vary and if you want the best performance you need to test it with your own system. Meaning format it with 32k and run the AJA, BlackMagic or other speed tests (depending on your hardware) write down the numbers, then try a different block size. Keep doing that until you tried them all and find out for yourself. For me it was the 128k block size by a narrow margin. The 32k and 64k were acceptable on my system as well.
It’s been awhile and I don’t really remember where I read the outcome of other peoples tests, but you might try searching the obvious Cow forms to see if you can get anymore insight. The Apple discussions Xserve RAID forum might have some info as well, but they erase old posts, so it would have to be something fairly recent.
Also, you might want to speak with AJA, BlackMagic, etc to see what they recommend. I use Xserve RAID’s and there maybe a hardware difference (I run RAID 50, over Fibre, and the size of my storage considerably bigger as well.
So no specific answers, either test and pick what gives you the best numbers, accept a general recommendations, or ask the capture card manufacturer what they believe is best.

It is fine to have two different OS’s on different drives like that. However, unless you need to run some old software or hardware, I would update the OS 10.3.9 drive to the latest version (be sure to repair the permissions and the drive using Disk Utility first). You applications should be on which ever drive you use as your startup drive. Video needs to be on a different drive than your startup drive or you will have performance problems (dropped frames, etc). The safest thing maybe to reinstall all your applications onto the newly installed OS 10.4 drive, then erase the other drive and use it for your video files and/or backups (you can even backup your OS using an application like SuperDuper, Carbon Copy cloner, or Retrospect to the second drive).

Yep, ATTO has always done a good job of supporting the Mac and writing drivers for OS X. I hope they continue that policy, with the acquisition it seems like they have less reasons to support the Mac in the future.

I use 128k for video RAID’s. However, I’ve used 32k and it still works great. Currently I’m using Xserve RAID’s, but the suggested 64k and 128k are correct for any RAID used for video.

Here’s a couple more solutions if none of those work (probably just the usual “Fit to Window” problem):
delete FCP 4 preferences, they maybe corrupted
If you’re using an AJA Io, disconnect all FireWire devices from the computer other than the Io.
Remove drivers and codecs from other vendors.
poor RAID performance, as a test, try using a compressed codec.
