  • Files repeatedly going offline once captured in FCP HD 4.5

Posted by Lisa Salem on July 20, 2006 at 6:11 pm

I am capturing video footage from my camera to my external harddrive but the files I am capturing and saving keep going offline – but usually days after they were captured. Most times when I re-open FCP at least some files have disconnected and often these are random and not related to what I’ve been most recently working on. I always save as I go and when I close the application I make sure everything looks fine and is where it should be.

What could be making this occur?

Will reinstalling the application likely resolve this issue and if I do uninstall it to reinstall, will I lose any of my material in the process?

I have a Powerbook G4 and a Promax DVBox 320GB of which I have 190GB’s left. I set the capture scratch to capture audio and video seperately. I use a Canon Optura 300 as my deck and am using FCP HD 4.5. I have tried daisychaining my camera to the DVBox but the DVBox doesn’t read on my computer when I do that so I have reverted to firewiring my camera to my computer and connecting the external harddrive via firewire 800.

    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Lisa Salem

Make sure the external hard drive is the only thing plugged into your Powerbook’s Firewire ports (the 800 and 400 share the same bus and are not separate – meaning they can interfere with each other). Using a Firewire card in your Powerbook for the drive would be a good idea. Also, I suggest making sure the firmware is up-to-date for the drive and checking with ProMax about any compatibility issues.
