You can probably buy the Airport card you need from an online dealer like this one: https://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/customer/home.php?cat=369

  • Here’s some things to try, its probably something simple:

    1) Make sure the monitor is connected the correct Io video output.
    2) External Video is set to OFF. Go to FCP View -> External Video and set it to all frames.
    3) Close the FCP Log and Capture Window.
    4) Close the Edit-to-tape Window.
    5) Make sure that the FCP Viewer and Canvas zoom setting is set to fit to Window.
    6) The Io is not setup properly

The Io and the Kona 2 work great together in the same Mac. That’s what i use in my own studio. I recommend you get the K-BOX to go with your Kona 2.

I would say an Io LA (or the Io, if you’re ever going to need SDI for Digi-beta, etc). The other way to go is to get a Kona LS with KBOX. With it you can still use your Mac’s Firewire ports, if needed, since it doesn’t monopolize them like the Io’s. However, with the Io’s it’s easy to later add a Kona 2 card for HD and have the best of both worlds on one machine. Either way, you should be fine.

[gary adcock] “ATI x850 card is the best for apps like FCP, Motion and Final Touch, and it only takes up one slot.”

I believe he can only get the X800 for his Mac (Unless he finds an X850 on Ebay or somewhere). The X850 is BTO only.

Your capture settings are set to DV. Most likely you either are not capturing from a DV/Firewire source and need to change your FCP capture settings to match your deck/capture device, or your FW cable from your deck is not plugged in, or your deck is not set to use its Firewire outputs.

[Ed Stevens] “Will I improve performance on the 800FW going to a PCI card rather than the FW on the back of the MAC?”

Hi Ed, you won’t improve performance unless you are capturing from DV sources through Firewire (not through your BlackMagic card). If that is the case, then I would get a FW card so you are not capturing through the same FW bus that your FW hard drive is on.

[Ed Stevens] “What display crad can I upgrade to to improve refresh rate?
I don’t want the Radion that takes up 2 slots.”

The Radeon cards don’t take up 2 slots. Its the nvidia 6800 cards that do that. The ATI Radeon X800 (or X850) is the card I use and would recommend: https://www.ati.com/products/radeonx800/radeonX800xtme/index.html
