M-Audio Flying Cow
Posted by Donato M. rondinelli on August 30, 2005 at 5:19 pmI have a SDI 16×16 router with analog audio that my DVC50, Beta & DVCAM (and future FCP) are wired to. Can I expect a delay in audio if I’m using the M-Audio Flying Cow to convert AES to analog into & out of the router? Does the flying Cow fix the delay?
TIA,

August 30, 2005 at 9:06 pmyou say FUTURE FCP system – it is my advice to you that if you have SO MANY analog sources, and an analog router, that you DO NOT purchase the AJA Kona 2, but purchase the AJA I/O box, which has analog (and AES/EBU) inputs, and avoid all the potential propogation delay issues with the A/D
D/A converters. You did say FUTURE FCP system, didn’t you? Then in the future, buy the AJA I/O and be happy.

August 30, 2005 at 9:31 pmWhat about HD? I forgot to mention that I’m getting an HD deck in the next 60 days, maybe the AJ-HD1200A. The HD side of it will go staight into FCP. Could I use the I/O with Kona 2? Can I configure 1 system to do it all?

August 30, 2005 at 10:42 pmThe Io and the Kona 2 work great together in the same Mac. That’s what i use in my own studio. I recommend you get the K-BOX to go with your Kona 2.

August 31, 2005 at 1:05 amTony is correct. Since you are buying an expensive AJ-HD1200A, you are probably doing an equipment lease, and you can stick both the AJA I/O and Kona 2 with K-Box on the lease. It will add a very small amount onto the lease payment, and you will have a wonderful, complete system. The I/O with the Kona 2 will allow you to upconvert your analog sources to HD !!!
