Sorry, iPhone and hit wrong button. Continued…you edit. You’ll loose some of the quality from the original files! If they’re shooting on digital media, just have then send you the raw files, and transcode when you get them!
I would definitely suggest you have them buy some 32gb thumb drives and mail them though! Much more reliable and no moving parts like hard drives. Maybe have them FTP the first episodes footage, then mail the rest on USB jump drives.

H.264 is going to retain the best quality to filesize ratio but make sure they encode the files with the highest quality they can. Then transcode to ProRes before y

You might try Digital Juice (https://www.digitaljuice.com). They have some great sfx packages and free software for searching and converting the clips before you use them. If you watch the sales, you can get each package for $99.

Or just buy a new drive, start fresh, and put the old one on the shelf as a backup! My original drive always 500gb so I just picked up a 2tb from OWC for $130. Pretty reasonable, and now I will have tons of spec compared to the old one and won’t have to worry about formatting and erasing (or even cloning for that matter) a drive and realizing I left something on there that need.
Just something to thnk about.

Try using Compressor and telling it to maintain speed at 100%, or conform using Cinema Tools

Try a different power supply if you’ve got one. I had a Lacie once that was doing that and they sent me a new supply and it worked perfectly! No idea what was wrong but was told that the old one must’ve no longer been putting enough out. Worth a try.

Are the files you’re having trouble reconnecting render files by any chance? I’ve seen it happen before where you can’t get em reconnected…and if they are deleted without using the render manager, FCP will keep looking for em even if told to forget em. Might try deleting the thumbnails cache if tats the case. Thought it could be worth a try!

No problem. You use that to toggle snapping on and off sometimes you just don’t want to use snapping…like when you need precision placement. Do a google search for a PDF of FCP keyboard shortcuts and print it out. It’ll be very helpful!
