Unless you are doing a filmout or intend on eventually buying an HD camera the extra cost for the HD lens is not worth it.
On that note if I was doing a film out today I would not be shooting with ENG lenses instead I would opt for primes.

Yes indeed this is possible.
Sony and Kodak have keep this quasi film/tape hybrid a major secret for over ten years now.
But to keep it simple just take some old 8mm film and jam it inside any standard vhs deck for a quick playback check. No need for a telecine xfer and the cost savings are wonderful.
What the heck wuz you thinkin????\

Have you considered how you intend to deal with the timecode?
A better method is to use the standard def SDI and verify if the embedded timecode and audio are retained.
Then you could use a dvcam deck with SDI inputs to record video, audio, and timecode all embedded and in time with each other.

No excuse for poor subject lighting,
The staging company primary concern is the environment not the subject. If the primary client complains you must instruct them to force the staging company to comply or hire your own gaffer lighting company to deal with the subject lighting only.
A quick suggestion is to soften up the subject lights instead of using spot lighting on them which can be harsh.
You also can ask the intensity to be lowered to match the background levels so the overall scene does not look so blown out or overexposed.

Sounds like the job is suitable for a emerging film student who owns a dv camera package.
No real skill set needed for lighting or camera work just point and shoot.
Whoever does this job should require COD payment.

Kevin,
You are correct Jeff did not discuss any new models at the Varicamp where he made the original comment regarding no new Varicam models to be revealed at NAB 2006.

I can shoot however.
So just find me a kid actor who is yet to be born and a actress wife and lets all make a movie.

Just because the trade mags post the hype does not mean any of it is true or factual.
I attended in person a meeting where Michael Mann spoke about his experiences with Collateral and it was quite a different story than the Millmeter article mentioned.
Regardless of what equipment is used the most important piece of “equipment” will always be the crew behind the gear.
People not equipment make the images memorable.
