Go into Audio/Video Settings and in sequence presets check the list of available codecs. Anything in there FCP can working with natively.

Use Compressor. Make a custom preset to change the frame rate from 29.97 to 23.976.

Is the viewer set to Image in the view popup or Image+Wireframe? Sounds like you pressed the W key in the viewer.

I think dubbing the tapes is a good solution. It gives you a digital master tape, and there is no further loss in capturing. You can also hold the disk captured media as a second archive.

All ProRes codecs are 10-bit. 4444 is 12-bit for the alpha channel.

Normally DVD players will play back 24fps. The adjustment is done on output. If you really want to do it you can try using Cinema Tools to conform it. You’ll have to adjust the audio speed as well, which you can do in Soundtrack Pro.

Do a batch export of your sequences and take the exported files to Compressor.
