1. Only by running them through the mixer with record keyframes on. Or by resetting the levels for the whole thing.

2. Try trashing your preferences and make sure audio scrubbing is switched on

What color depth did you use? Did you set it to Millions+ in AE?

It sounds like you still have a stereo pair. You need to switch that off and get rid of the useless track. When there is only one mono track then center that.

What’s happening in the meters when you center the audio? Are they both moving?

I don’t think this has anything to do with the motion tab. Where’s this material come from? It sounds like there’s a field error which you’re not seeing when play back in the canvas but you see on export. Do you see it on playback to a video monitor?

You could use the timecode reader in FCP and render the whole thing out, but why bother. Most cameras, even some of cheapest, have a menu setting that will output the viewscreen display including any timecode. Simply dub the tape directly to VHS in that mode for viewing purposes. That’s what I do all the time.

In FCP you can select the clip and use Modify>Timecode. This will change the timecode track on the QT media file. It’s a destructive function.
