    Hi All,

I have rendered some animations from AE using the Animation Codec and a Straight Alpha channel.

When i drop these files over footage in FCP HD it works as I imagined it would, with nicely transparent graphics over my footage.

But the editor I’ve made them for is using FCP 3. When I bring it in there the animation is matted with the alpha channel. so it looks ok in the viewer except that it’s now over a black background. When I drag the animation down to the timeline and place it over some footage the black remains where I was hoping to see the footage below.

I checked the file formats and FCP is set to it having a straight alpha. I’m not sure what else to do. I’m sure it’s something simple I’m missing, so if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks all.

What color depth did you use? Did you set it to Millions+ in AE?

    All the best,

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Yes I did set it to Millions plus. The alpha channel is showing up, just won’t let me overlay the transparency on top of other video layers.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again.
