There is no normalize function within FCP. There is in Soundtrack Pro.

Can’t help you with that. Shift-F works for me. You didn’t say which version of FCP you’re using. Maybe it doesn’t work in yours.

The U key cycles through this function.

Nothing. If you capture using AIC you lose the timecode. FCP converts the file and makes a new QuickTime file and TC information is lost. You really want to work in HDV natively and not use AIC. HDV uses a different capture window.

There isn’t one. There is no way to add it. Go to feedback and join the long list of people who have requested being able to tab between sequences or other ways to move between tabs in the active window.

Is this Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express? Either way you need to make sure the motion extends beyond the dissolve to the end of the media.

FCE does not edit HDV natively. It converts it to Apple Intermediate Codec during capture. This is not a real-time process. FCP is HDV native and captures in real-time. Editing and output are quite different, but they both work similarly while editing, and take about as much time to output.
