Always use copy, unless you’re really short of drive space. Sounds as if some of your have gotten corrupted. Or the drive has bad sectors, or is going south.

OT: anybody know why going south is a bad thing?

No problem, you added “The wording in this menu has changed a little over different versions of the application, but the intent is the same. In earlier versions the choices were Real-Time or FireWire, Real-Time being the option for computer playback. … From the View menu set play video playback to none.” Oops I don’t have a video playback selection at all under my View menu.”

That’s for FCE (Final Cut Express) you’re not using that application. You’re using Final Cut Pro.

What do you want to do in FCE? You could try and open the iMovie project in FCE, but that seldom works. If you export the iMovie project it’s a single file. If you need to edit the clips you’ll need them as separate pieces. You’ll still probably have to render in FCE because of the different formats, unless you export a QuickTime DV file(s) from iMovie.

That’s kind of hard to answer. What are you trying to do? Link the material together? You can link the clips or merge the clips. You can also edit them as independent items in the Timeline.
