Creating comic strip style word bubbles for FCP
Posted by Christopher Bagnall on February 20, 2006 at 1:10 amI’m trying to create the comic strip dialogue bubble for a FCP project. Anyone have any advice? The style I’m looking for is a “thought bubble” that pops in to a dogs head. Thanks

February 20, 2006 at 1:17 amYou need to make that in a graphics application like Photoshop or Illustrator.
All the best,

February 20, 2006 at 1:23 amThere is a dedicated software to do just this kind of thing. I saw it at the Apple store today. Can’t remember the name exactly, something like “Cartoon”.

February 20, 2006 at 2:27 amYou can use the 8 point garbage matte, but it is a bit of a clunky tool.

February 20, 2006 at 2:29 amJust use the Shapes tool and choose an Oval. Make a large oval and a few more smaller ones, then just lay them out in your thought bubble pattern
Key those over your video and apply a Text layer on top of that.
It’s a lot easier in photoshop, but you can do this in FCP by layering it all together.

February 20, 2006 at 3:55 amThe software is called “Comic Life” by Plasq. This has to be my favorite mac program (besides FCP) that I’ve every used.
It absolutely ROCKS!. You have to check it out. https://plasq.com/
You can export to video directly from this program. Did I say that I LOVE this program?
