I am not sure what the manufacture is. We purchased the unit from ProMax so it is one of their cases and drives. I have checked the firmware and we are up to date. I want to open the drives in the disk utility in 10.5 but the computer crashes before I can access the drives. It worked initially because I formatted the array in 10.5, but once it started to crash I was stuck. Right now the drive crashes the computer as soon as you turn it on. It still boots fine in 10.3.9. I am stumped.

The array is an external serial ATA, striped Apple Raid Version 1.0. I can wipe it clean if fact that would be the preference. I am doing a backup as it stands right now so I can restore the info. Thanks

The main battery still hold a good charge. The PMU is probably the problem. I am not going to shut it down anymore.

Got it! I let it sit for a an hour without the battery or power and it started right up. Thanks guys

I actually went their and we were trying to export using the DV mov. Will give it a try avi. We are also trying to decrease the export time. I though using the DV codec would be fast and simple. On FCP a 30 minute movie could export in 3-4 minutes self contained. Thanks for the info

The problem with this is I do not have access to the requesting person for an explaination. When I try to open the file, Window Media Player tells me it cannot recognize the extention. I guess my question should be does the .mp4 format play back on a PC without Quicktime. I was able to open the file and play through quicktime on the PC. The main proplme is the requester is half a world away and we do not have access to him before the file goes out.

Thanks guys and I appreciated the advice, everything you have mentioned in your posts has already been discussed over the past 2 weeks multiple times. The though of running 150 or 200 DVD is driving me crazy, I suggested a hard drive and they said NO. They have specs on alot of different jobs they do and their people have to follow them. Some of this footage is proprietary, some get used by other facilities that have security clearances, it’s alot more than just a simple transfer. With a Government related job we may never know why they spec things the way they do.
Rich, you have some great advice and we have suggested all of those options to them weeks ago when we got the stuff and saw what a mess this could be, but the person in charge says it has to be done to their “spec”. We are just looking for the best possible way to it under the cirumstances. They normally do not question the price, so we are well compensated for our efforts. -
This is for a defense contractor. They want the clips on DVD’s so we can use it here on our off-line DV system and on his PC editing system. They know it’s going to be 200 DVD, they don’t care. This is the way they want, I was told twice it not up for debate, unfortunately. I am going to have to do it in DV coded, our sytem will allow me to loop the output of the S-VHS recorder through a mini-DV deck and digitize the footage into the system. I have no problem doing a batch in cleaner if I could reduce the file sizes but still use the clips. The image quality is not so good. Thanks again.

It did not work, I guess I have to re-digitze in pieces, I can’t wait to find an answer.
