We recently updated the system software on one of our editing systems. The system was upgraded from 10.3.9 up to 10.5.1. When we did the upgrade the array would not function properly and would crash the computer. We removed all of the material and reformatted using the disk utility program in 10.5.1. Now the array crashes the computer immediately upon access. I tried to format the drives separately but the problem is still their with one of the drives. The interesting thing is if we boot the computer back to 10.3.9 their are no problems, the drives run perfect. I cannot find any hardware problems with the array itself, I ran all of the diagnostics in 10.3.9 and the array comes up clean. When I try to run the disk utility in 10.5.1 the computer immediately crashes, the mouse freezes and we have to reboot.

Tom, have you checked with the manufacturer of the raid? Who is the manufacturer?

I am not sure what the manufacture is. We purchased the unit from ProMax so it is one of their cases and drives. I have checked the firmware and we are up to date. I want to open the drives in the disk utility in 10.5 but the computer crashes before I can access the drives. It worked initially because I formatted the array in 10.5, but once it started to crash I was stuck. Right now the drive crashes the computer as soon as you turn it on. It still boots fine in 10.3.9. I am stumped.

This sounds like a case for Disk Warrior. Make sure to get the Leopard version. However, since Promax is back in business you might try calling them first for a little tech support.
