We do have a MAC G5 2 dual processor that is over 3 years old and it does work with Pro Res no problem. That computer does have Kona LH card in it for rendering 10bit. Is that why it works? Thanks Walter.

We are exploring doing the encodings in H264. Their is a potential that the movies may need to be played back on multiple computers and as a rule they do not load Quicktime on their systems. I am most concerned about the bit rate which we will probably stick with something around 3MB/sec to play it safe.

Thanks Maurice, I am not going to fool with. The machine gets turned on about 1 or 2 times a month to run dubs for some of the local cable insertion companies. The machine is only off 2 db so it’s not a problem. We have no need to digitize Beta with this machine since our Beta Camera is long since gone. We had a 2800 which blew up after 15 years of service, I wish we could have called it quits with the Beta put we had to pick up the machine to run dubs for spot distribution.

Thanks Bob. I will not monkey with it. We are stuck with it for now because several of the local TV stations still use Beta SP as their preferred format for spot delivery so I need it for running dubs.

We unknowingly updated our system and ran into several problems (read previous post) but I was actually able to make the system work. We are using a G5 running 10.5.5 and running 6.0.5 for FCP. It does not digitize perfect but until we buy a framestore it get’s us by. 2 problems: Got to have 5 seconds of pre-roll and once in a while it bails on a shot while digitizing. We are getting a framestore so very shortly it will be mute point.

For future workload, some of which is shot 24p. Is it better to just get the disks out and reload the 6.0 and stay with that? Does anyone know if this problem with the JCV camera is going to be resolved?

The stepback to 6.0 may be a problem, but I am going to use dvcprohd just to get us through the shots we have.

    Thank Johnny. A few questions.
How far do you have to step with FCP? Back to 6.0.1. I believe that was the software version that we were running before we unknowingly made an upgrade.
Do you have a recommendation for a convertor that can let us take in the signal SDI on the Kona Card.
We have something that is shot on 60p. What coded would you use to digitize the footage into the system? Normally we edit with the native HDV and then export to a 720 x 480 timeline because our local stations still use Beta SP as the means of spot delivery.
Thanks again, it helps to get a definitive answer. We have been pulling our hair out.

I have done research and one of the problems is that some of the places we need to send dubs cannot dub directly to the cart from a DVCAM machine. So they are going to dub it to a Beta deck anyway.

The Sony DVCAM machine is feed by Firewire.
