Or, in a pinch, put a slug on the top track and ramp the opacity of the slug to do the fade…kinda old school but…

This is a very valid issue. We often export video clips into our PC based workstations for Efx work. It will severly limit our workflow using ProRes422 in the future if the graphics artists cannot utilize the codec. We already run into this problem when using DVCPro50 as a codec and transferring clips for graphic work while in SD. It’s a fairly rare project that does not require some sort of additional graphical work to complete. The need to transcode clips from the original codec into some other PC-friendly variety is not a good solution for an efficient workflow.
Hopefully, Apple will realize that this industry does indeed function on all platforms and that they will wise up and include the codec in future issues of Quicktime for both flavors of PC. Or at lease, make it available in a Windows-friendly stand alone version at an additional fee? I guess we’ll see in a few weeks…

And keep in mind that 0db on an analog scale is very different than 0db on a digital scale. The reference to -20db tone for broadcast is -20db on a DIGITAL scale, not on an analog one. If you run tone at -20db onto an analog machine, say a Betacam SP deck, your overall audio levels will be very low for broadcast. Make sure you are not talking apples while the broadcaster is talking oranges. Be sure that you are both using the same reference for your settings, either analog or digital and take it from there.

I dunno. I have a few clients that I could use a plug in like this on. Especially the “enhancing the image” part. I’m going to burn for this one.

Chicage is market #3.
Atlanta is market #9.Chicago and the surrounding areas (Milwaukee, Twin Cities, Detroit, Etc.) have a very large user base of FCP and Studio.
Don’t get me wrong herre. I’m not mad, just a little dissapointed. The Chicago area should be worthy of a roadshow.
It’s difficult to take off and travel several days just to demo the software. I have several of the Studio 2 upgrades on order. It would just be nice to get a little bit of a preview before it arrives. I also have new Mac Pros on order as well.
I could take off, but if I do, no work is getting done and, at least so far, I haven’t found a way to get paid if I’m not working and billing.
I’ll just wait for Studio 2 to ship and keep an eye on the Cow for any late breaking news. 🙂

I agree. Every one of my machines is equipped with a tablet. I’m a total mouse-spaz after using the Wacoms for all these years…

Or…
open Quicktime Pro. Go to “Open image sequence” Open your Targa sequence and then export it as a Quicktime movie of your choice and import that Quicktime movie into FCP.

Off the top of my head here. FCP is not open.
Highlight the clip in the timeline. Hit Shift-“F” to highlight it in the bin. Highlight the clip name and Command “C” to copy it. Open the FCP text tool and paste (Command “V”) the clip name into the text window. Insert the text over the already highlighted clip in the timeline. Repeat as necessary. Burn to DVD or export for DVDSP.
A little cumbersome but quick and easy once you get the rhythm.
Or print the EDL as mentioned above. Good practice for all of you young bucks out there to read an EDL. Now I’ll go back into the cave…
