Lots of great info here. My biggest question on Mac vs. PC when it comes to Premiere is the codec architecture and how Premiere functions with that. Premiere does seem a bit slow and clunky on my newish 8-core MacPro, especially with dynamic linked AE files.
For example, my understanding is that quicktime is strictly 32-bit, and therefore 64-bit processes don’t work on Premiere at top speed if you’re using quicktime codecs.
We use ProRes 4444 for most of our stuff because it rocks and it can store alpha.
But Premiere doesn’t seem to love it, and CineForm and DNxHD are great, but the don’t play back stutterless at full rez and quality on my mac.
Anyway, we’ve moved to Premiere but don’t know how to fully optimize things and our next round of computer purchases MIGHT be PCs. I’d love to hear any thoughts on how to maximize a Premiere setup on either platform.
THANKS!
Tom
