  • Thats a rhetorical question since no one know any info on the new Mac Pro 😀

I went for the Z820 with the fastest processors available. After a 27% price reduction on the unit, a price reduction on the warranty and free next day delivery, I think I got a good deal.

It will be a major step up from my early 2008 Mac Pro from what my research indicates.

Im not sure. The software I used to configure the system was OK. The software designed to allow me to track its progress was nonfunctional. When I mentioned this to several reps I was trying to get some info from, they said “oh yeah, we hear a lot of that…” :/

I was told salespeople had access to different database then customer support, etc. Lots of excuses.

Must be embarrassing to be such a large computer company and not have your computer system operating efficiently 😛 😀

Finally after a day of detective work they said it might ship out Monday.

What I like to do is this..
    1. Select clip(s) to eventually sent to AE as DL.
    2. Hold down Option and drag up to Track 2 for both video and audio. Right click and deactivate them and turn audio off(or whatever the terminology is). Now you have a copy of your sequence.
    3. Select the clip(s) on Video and Audio Track 1 and Make an AE DL composition.

This way I have the original sequence in PrP if I need to change it for any reason.

Also to be clear, when you send clips to AE and a DL is created with PrP, once you are done working in AE, you dont have to Send it back. Just Tab back to PrP and the link is there and updated.

To offer a different perspective, I have the Quadro 4000 for the Mac. It has been a solid performer with no issues whatsoever. It is a bit over priced if you are just using it for PrP and AE.

As I leave Apple behind and switch to a HP Z820 PC, I will be running the Nvidia PNY GTX 570. Better performance and better BFTB.

    Here are some helpful statistics.

I have had questions about the nature of this project…”whats its for”.

I find it helpful to try new techniques and keep my chops up by doing these personal projects on a regular basis. I get to explore and use skills that my day to day work doesnt call for.

It also reminds me what I love about editing, and being a musician (rock and blues guitarist) music videos are particularly near and dear to me 😀
