Alex, thanks very much. I do have the option of auto rebuild checked, so I expect it will start on its own. I appreciate the help.

Jakub, I did find a crash happening every 10 seconds, related to an X-rite i1Profiler software, which had been uninstalled. I got the updated runtime UNinstaller and ran it. That stopped the app crashing (which was happening in the background). But Final Cut X still hitches now and then. Interesting what you can find if you dig a little deeper, though.

When I use1080psf23.98 it plays fine. So the Kona is taking the 720p23.98 and cross converting to 1080psf23.98 for me. It also works if the Kona is set to 1080i though. So the Kona is adding pulldown, I assume, to get to 1080i. Why can’t it do that to get to 720p59.94? As long as it works, I don’t really care. It’s just unintuitive to set the Kona to 1080 when the project is actually 720.

Must be a bug of some sort. I have also seen share monitor freeze while the sharing actually completes.

You can also click in the dashboard area beneath the Viewer–where the timecode is displayed. This is same as Ctrl-P.

Yep, looking for workarounds. Will check ClipExporter, thx.

September 17, 2012 at 12:17 am in reply to: Worst Crash… Event corrupted, Project files ok?I had an event that lost a lot of clips after a crash. This left me with a project with missing corresponding clips in the event. Because the event still contained the most recent clips I was using, I didn’t notice it for quite a while–thus rendering the event backup useless. When I finally needed to use some more, similar clips, the event no longer contained them.
My edit was almost done, so I tried “Duplicate Project and Used Clips Only.” This created a new event for the duplicate project to reference. It seemed to contain everything I need, including the used clips with favorites marked. All my compound clips functioned as expected. The end result was that I had a functioning project and an event for it to reference. I assume unused clips were not contained in the new event.
I am considering buying Pro Versioner backup software that can keep sequential backups of the event and project databases.

Bill, my goal is the same as your method with the Project. If I want to window dub all the clips of Dave Smith, I highlight the first one in the Event Lib, make a compound from it, name it Dave Smith window dub, and then append all the rest of the Dave clips to the compound. This puts the compound in the Event Library and the default is to match the timecode to the first clip. Drop the TC generator on and stretch it and I’m done. Seems like the only basic difference is that you store a Project and I store a compound clip in the Event Library. That makes it real easy for me to see that I have created window dubs of all the source clips–usually interviews in my case. It works with sequentially coded clips–would not work with the time-of-day coded clips that Bruce has.
When I get the selects back from the client, I just use the original clips and Favorite the selects as I mark them.

To make “window dubs” of raw clips I control click on a clip in the Event Browser and select “New Compound Clip.” Double-click to open the compound just created. Add more of your original clips if desired. Put the Timecode generator on top of the whole thing. Seems to work for me. I just share the compounds with clients and use the original clips for my edits.

That is a nice, flat graph with no nasty slow spikes.
