November 9, 2007 at 6:27 pm in reply to: FCP (and iMac G5) will not recognize Firewire DV Input

    i’m having same problem…but only using a pansonic dvx100a. I tried connecting a panasonic-PV GS200 minidv camcorder(w/ firewire) and that worked fine.

when i plug the dvx100a in…the silly imac’s built-in camera comes up in the capture window…so it seems like there’s an internal overide of firewire going on here…

    any tips?

  • now that the discussion is getting slightly off course…
    thought i’d “reel” things in a little…

it turns out that I now, for whatever reason, CAN view through my usual monitor…and fcp seems to be working just dandy…

which leads me to the next question:
if i get the the error message:
“the installed graphics card does not support the openGL features recommended by fcp”
    everytime i open fcp…

    i wonder what i’m “missing”…or what capabilities i won’t be able to enjoy…
    oh, the joys, the sorrows…

    thanks for the discussion, regardless…

  • arnie,

thanks. here’s the info i found out about the cards…if anyone else has info to add to the discussion, that’d be super to hear from you.

    CARD(s) NEEDED:
TI Radeon 9800, 9700 Pro, 9600 XT, or 9600 Pro ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 or 9600
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT, 7300 GT, 6600, 6600 LE, FX Go5200, or FX 5200 Ultra
For 16- and 32-bit rendering: a graphics card with at least 128MB of VRAM

    from apple support discussion
The best card for your PowerMac is this ATI Radeon 9800 256mb made specifically for 2x/4x agp architecture This is the most powerful card you can put in a G4 tower and will
actually run Motion pretty decently as is definately qualified for FCS2.

  • arnie,

i hear ya. i just need to get this resolved…which will bring in some much needed income.

in fact, when i get fcp back up and running with this (small?) problem fixed…I’ll be able to finish this project that will allow me to get a new g5 mac pro. income must be more or at least equal to the outcome…or something like that.

any suggestions addressing my original question?

oh yeah…I remember doing that with my old premiere projects back in 1998 (or something like that)…but I haven’t had to do that with FCP ever before. thanks for the reminder

    Mark,

don’t have an answer for you but I’m interested to see that you’ve been able to export mpg2s from fcp…or are you talking about compressor ? I’ve been trying an “easy” way to export mpg2s from FCP (with both audio and video) for a long time. any info you can provide would be super.

    thanks

March 22, 2007 at 4:39 pm in reply to: exporting an mpg2 with final cut pro ?

    Rich,

thanks…interesting…so there’s a way to export mpg2 from quicktime pro. I do need both the audio and video exported. little confused from your post though… do i need to have dvd studio 3 for any of this to happen? and do I need strreamclip / squared5.com do have both audio and video combined?

please clarify a little./ thanks again for the replies.

March 22, 2007 at 4:34 pm in reply to: exporting an mpg2 with final cut pro ?

nope, i don’t have dvd studio 3 or 4. just want to be able to export a completed project from fcp or a simple plugin. as it is now, I have to export to tape, bring over to my silly little “shuffle” PC, digitize/import to the ulead videostudio application (has a really lame toy-like interface) and export as an mpg2. for such a cheezy toy-like program it actually has an incredible array of exporting options… sure wish FCP had the same options.

    maybe with the next update??

    thanks for your info though.
