FCP (and iMac G5) will not recognize Firewire DV Input

As a test, quit FCP, unplug the firewire drives, open FCP and try again.

Just seeing if there’s a bus conflict.

i’m having same problem…but only using a pansonic dvx100a. I tried connecting a panasonic-PV GS200 minidv camcorder(w/ firewire) and that worked fine.

when i plug the dvx100a in…the silly imac’s built-in camera comes up in the capture window…so it seems like there’s an internal overide of firewire going on here…

any tips?

done tried it, to no avail. i also tried another camera, with no luck. does anyone know if disconnecting and reconnecting the physical port would help/reset anything/etc?

So the camera works elsewhere, the firewire port works with other devices, it’s just that your firewire port doesn’t work with your camera, but it used to. That’s a new one on me.

yep. it’s more like the new imac G5 is not compatible with dvx100a firewire?

anyone else heard of this…. the odd thing was that the imac’ss built in camera seemed to be overiding my firewire connection….

weird indeed. good thing the imac station is not my primary edit station.

Dear Tom I am experiencing the same problem with my power book and also with my G5 / They don’t recognize my panasonic dvx100a. have you found the solution ? I have already gone to signatures and Library and re-installed Q.Time but it didi nor work.

sorry…i never was able to figure out… must have been an compatibility issue with my panasonic dvx100a camera …but i ended up using different configuration and the imac recognized a jvc minidv firewire without any problems.

Hello there,

I’m having the same problems. My iMac G5 (with FCP) won’t recognize my Panasonic DVX 100a.
I’ve tried the firewire cable and camera on another computer, and they do work.

Any solutions?

YES. i just ejected a lacie firewire drive (attached with 800 cable) that was not in use, fired up fcp and it works.

there appears to be a correlation with firewire (lacie only?) drives that make the capture not possible when it’s plugged in. audio feed and video video is being passed “through” but not in the capture window until i ejected and restarted fcp. works like a charm with the “unneeded” 800 firewire NOT plugged in.

We have a guy here with a new mac pro that just started having this issue yesterday. Thing is, the fix that was posted didnt work. I think it is because he is running Snow Leopard and had FCS7. Any ideas?
