FXPlugs
Posted by Steve Julin on October 10, 2007 at 3:25 pmSome FXPlug Filters do not show up on some of my Intel Macs. Some examples are Bloom and Echo.

October 10, 2007 at 6:47 pmWhat versions of the software are you using?
Is the Effects menu set to show all effects? Bottom of the menu.
All the best,
Tom

October 11, 2007 at 12:30 amRunning FCP 6.0 and yes “show all effects is selected” I’m managing 12 different staions and only the Power PC stations (3 of them) don’t show the effects. Not all the new effects are missing – just some. The Intels (the other 9) display all the effects.

October 11, 2007 at 11:20 amWhat versions of Motion are they running? The FxPlugins come from Motion filters. Are they available in Motion?
All the best,
Tom

October 11, 2007 at 12:28 pmThe stations are running Motion 3.0 and yes the filters can be access via Motion but not in FCP. FCP sees some of the FX plugins but not all. Unfortunatly the plug-ins they don’t see are the ones they need to use (I’m teaching an advanced FCP class) Keep in mind – this is only on our 3 non-Intel macs. All the others are fine. The software (FCS 2) was installed on each the same day from the same discs. I can’t seem to find where the FXPlugs are stored.
One sequence has a Dazzle effect already applied but Dazzle doesn’t show up in the effect tab.
Thanks,
Steve

October 11, 2007 at 12:45 pmThey’re hidden in a few different places in the system Library. If they’re showing up in the Motion filters on those machines I’d suggest reinstalling. It might also be related to the graphics cards on those machine, though why they would show up in Motion and not in FCP I don’t know.
All the best,
Tom

October 11, 2007 at 3:31 pmThe graphic cards on those machines are different. But why would some FXplugs appear and not others?

October 11, 2007 at 4:22 pmSteve, nothing to help, sorry, my own sad story:
We’ve got the FxPlugs visible in FCP and they all work inside Motion and they used to work in FCP but a few weeks ago they started displaying a red warning screen when applied to any video clip or generator clip: Effect “Dazzle” failed to render.Happens on two separate Intel machines. We have not tried reinstalling yet,. too busy to be bothered just now.
Hoe you chase it down and get it fixed. Please keep us posted on your progress.

October 11, 2007 at 7:05 pmMost likely because the graphics support requirements are different. I’m puzzled though that the filters appear and work correctly in Motion (is that correct?) and also work in FCP, even if they don’t load (is that also correct?).
All the best,
Tom

October 11, 2007 at 7:10 pmYes they work in Motion. While they don’t appear in the effects tab, a sequence that was loaded onto these stations had Dazzle on a clip – you can adjust it’s parameter but the actual effect Dazzle doesn’t apear in the effects tab. It’s the same for all three Power PCs.
