    Ok,
it seems that I have a whole year to wait for that “PAL” model…
Any other brand announced their p2 cards yet?

    April 2006!
    Only _eleven_ months further…

    https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/sales_o/p2/hvx200/index.html
says: ” It also supports 24p and 30p (NTSC model), 25p and 50p (PAL model) frame rates.”

Maybe we should make one more wishlist from “people from PAL-countries” that states only: “Please, Panny make just one global model!”

1080i might never be used in PAL-lands and if the camera includes “varicam framerates” then it already
has 720p25/50. So all that should be included is 1080p25 and 576i/p.

Could there be enough room in the menus to put these there?
Or would it even need a new page to menus?
Or is it really that same chips can’t output 480 and 576?

By looking at tech specs “PAL” and “NTSC” varicam models seems to be identical:
    Processing 74.1758MHz (59.94Hz), 74.25MHz (60Hz)
    Recording Format DVCPRO HD (720p, 59.94Hz/720p, 60Hz)
    Video Sampling Frequency Y: 74.1758MHz, Pb/Pr: 37.088MHz (59.94Hz), Y: 74.25MHz, Pb/Pr: 37.125MHz (60Hz)
    Audio Sampling Frequency 48.048kHz (60Hz), 48kHz (59.94Hz)

AFAIK varicam does not have 480/576 output, but couldn’t Panny find a chip for this that handles both?

Isn’t it a bit sad that you have to make additional DAD-conversion to get signal out of cam?
And usually in this price range the camera’s DA-conversion has to be made very cheaply.

One thing which is usually forgotten that when you do electronic in-camera CC, you loose a lot of color info.
This is why eg digibeta cams with optical cto-filter can deliver 10bit colors with 12b dsp.

So having electronic WB might not be problem to hvx delivering 8bit colors and having 14b dsp.
So when there is a lot of room in color space to adjust, it would be very wise to be able to do those adjustments.

[Barry Green] “It seems very likely that someone will develop a PCMCIA-to-firewire (or SATA) device that will handle the processing that’s necessary.”

I wouldn’t take for granted that there will be lots of accessories from several manufacturers right after hvx hits the shelves.
3rd party manufacturers will probably wait for an year to see if p2 technology gets popular and then make their decisions. Panny has to sell 5 digit numbers of these cameras before there is enough user base for 3rd party. Otherwise accessories will have to be made in very small series and prices get much higher than even with firestores.
Same thing with p2 cards. Has anybody heard about another manufacturer than Panny and when their cards will come available? 2007 maybe?

[Carlos] “Optional adjustable Kelvin Color Temperature: Like the SDX900 or many other cameras, we would like to uses Kelvin degrees as a reference for warm & cold temperature, is more reliable.”

    I second to that!
Dial in white balance and display for automatic/taken from sample.
Even green-magenta axel would be nice!

  • Lack of wide angle is only for “non-changeable” lenses.
In 2/3″ there is 5mm primes from all manufacturers and zooms from 4.4mm and prices start from under 10k.
Eg. Fujinon has lots of cctv lenses that start from 2.8mm for 1/3″, 1/2″, 2/3″ & 1″ chips with cs- or c-mount.

  • It seems that Fujinon does not even list T16x5.5BRMU in its website…
