Giving more options to user doesn’t take them away, does it?
Dv/hdv/dvcproHD could easily exist in one camera.
User should be able to choose what to use. -
Thinking of hdv, it might be a nice bonus to hvx200 if it could record hdv to tape.
So you would have an option also in HD to record HQ/short-time(p2) or LQ/long-time(hdv) like we have the option in SD (dv/dvcpro/dvcpro50).
How about 42 minits of hdv to 8GB p2?
Sony is pushing hdv hard with these new models, so it could just became another not so good, but widely accepted format.
I really don’t like hdv, because it’s so on the edge in qualitywise. It is possible to get good quality with it (like some hotshot DP’s keep telling us), but you need absolutely optimal conditions for that.When there is at least 500,000 hdv cameras sold before not one single p2-hd, it is hard to fight against windmills…

I’m not sure how well this F900 & ZU1 talk fits in this P2 group, but Jody have you shot any documentary with ZU1?
How do you like its sensitivity?
Do you see or care about compression artifacts in shots with complex movement?
(Handheld, water, fog, etc…)Don’t you see any problems with their resolving powers?
ZU1 with progressive picture delivers about same amount of lines than progressive PAL camera. -
I remember that these x:y:z notations come from analog equipment.
Number is just how many times of some base frequency you have bandwidth. -
If you have $31k you can buy hvx & deck, but no Varicam.

I’ll have to ask again: doesn’t all analog component have half of luma’s bandwidth in chroma channels?
If so, then analog output can’t be better than 4:2:2. -
Difference in ccd’s refresh rates is history.
These cams can refresh from 4 Hz to 60 Hz.
So is the difference in ccd’s resolution.
So what lies behind the ccd’s… -
I’m getting a bit puzzled also.
Isn’t all analog component “chroma compressed” ie. chroma channels have half the bandwidth than what luma has? -
I’d also like to know the reason for different models.
