I’m not a freelancer. I’m full-time at a University (doing video and post-production) and I’m looking for ways to supplement my income. The University is opening an events center and I have an “in” to get work like this.
I think if I told Joe from Joe’s Market I was going to charge him $450 for a two-hour shoot he would drop his jaw.
That’s why I think, in this case, an hourly rate would be better.

Shooting. Sorry. I’d say basic package, 1 camera w/tripod, wireless mic, lights if necessary. Just basic stuff. Shooting a speaker at a convention, blah blah blah.

“When I look at my FCP capture presets, the only preset I see that comes even close to your description is one called “DV NTSC 48kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal”. The ONLY place I see the “DV NTSC 48kHz 23.98″ is in my list of sequence presets.”
I do have a capture preset called DV NTSC 48kHz 23.98.

“Thus, since this is your first time out with 24p, I must ask you: what did you REALLY do when you shot and captured?”
I did not shoot or capture in the 24p advanced mode.

Would you advise me to re-capture using the 29.97 frame rate? After that, should I take it into cinema tools and use the reverse telecine option to remove the additional frames?

OK, after checking the original clips (which is what I should have done first), it’s not the multi-cam that’s messing up, the clips themselves are off sync! How did that happen? I checked all my capture and sequence presets and they’re identical. Again, i’m using a panasonic AJ-D250 via firewire into my mac. I’ve been doing this since I got the system. The only thing i’ve done recently is upgrade to OSX-Tiger.

I had the “shecret” disable layer cache checked on. I had checked it previously when i was having some memory issues. as soon as i turned it off, it rendered no prob.

I have not been using it at all with my deck, other than monitoring purposes. I find firewire to be a simple solution for me with the current equipment I have. The card and the deck were purchased before I was hired. I would have purchased a different deck (digital in/out). But we plan on going HD or HDV within the year and the card will should have more functionality for me, since Decklink Extreme is geared more towards digital decks. Thanks again.

Wow, thanks for the help Luke. After I did some of my own online research, I found that Blackmagic does not support the rs-232 protocol, which is what the card is. I had been capturing using firewire, I just thought that using the Blackmagic’s deck control would respond quicker than firewire. I also solved the problem (failing to lock onto the appropriate timecode) by switching from “Apple firewire” to “Apple firewire basic”. Smooth sailing now.
