I’m trying to capture some footage that has timecode breakups and image breakups as well. During capture when it hits a p
    articularly bad point, fcp says
“Capture encontered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape…”
I’ve gone into my settings and told it to ignore until after capture any time code breaks. It is a mini-dv tape being captured from an xl-2s via firewire. How can I bypass this?

The preferred workaround (and its a common problem) is to make an entire copy of the problematic master tape to a new DV tape via FireWire.

You can use ANY kind of DV camcorders (home-video is fine) or DV decks for making the copy.
The quality will not suffer and there will be no generation loss.

You will then have a new tape to capture from with continuous Timecode and the tear-ups will most-likely not be a problem.

Have you tried changing your device control to “non controlable device” The is works from me when timecode issues come up.
