24p, 3:2 and reverse telecine??
Hi, I’m attempting my first foray into 24p territory. I’ve shot footage using Canon xl-2 24p (not advanced mode). I’ve captured into fcp studio using the “DV NTSC 48 kHz 23.98” setting. Now, when i’m editing i’ve tried both 29.97 and 23.98 timelines and anything with any motion looks extremely stuttery. I realize there will be a little bit of stutter due to the nature of 24p, but I thought there was a way to make it “smoother” by removing the excess frames. I’ve done some research on past posts and looked at the cinema tools manual, both of which suggest using the “reverse telecine” function in Cinema tools. Only problem is, when i open the movie in CT, it doesn’t even give me the option to rev. telecine. the button is greyed out. Am I missing something here???

“When I look at my FCP capture presets, the only preset I see that comes even close to your description is one called “DV NTSC 48kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal”. The ONLY place I see the “DV NTSC 48kHz 23.98″ is in my list of sequence presets.”
I do have a capture preset called DV NTSC 48kHz 23.98.“Thus, since this is your first time out with 24p, I must ask you: what did you REALLY do when you shot and captured?”
I did not shoot or capture in the 24p advanced mode.Would you advise me to re-capture using the 29.97 frame rate? After that, should I take it into cinema tools and use the reverse telecine option to remove the additional frames?
