Next time, look for a progress bar on the lower right of your PPro window, it should say Conforming (or something along those lines). When it is done, you will be able to play the audio just fine.

Have you tried High Profile 4.2? And are you using the “Use Maximum Render Quality” checkbox checked? I’ve had better luck not checking that.
Use something like the Vimeo HD 1080P preset as a starting point.
It should look good!

You could move your projects to your encode drive. Your system will be reading more than it writes when encoding. Run a disk benchark, and put your media on the fastest drive. https://www.atto.com/disk-benchmark/
What I do, is I have one drive that has my self-contained projects which includes my graphics, video, audio – everything for that project. Easy to backup. I back it all up, because there is no way I can lose something.

You shouldn’t have your project and media on your system drive. Other than that, there is no right or wrong. More of what works for you. Typically, you would have a fast RAID array (RAID-6) for project/media. Makes for an easy backup solution

Strange. May want to try trashing the prefs.
To restore default preference settings and plug-in cache at the same time, hold down Shift-Alt (Windows) or Shift-Option (Mac OS) while the application is starting. Release the Shift-Alt keys or Shift-Option key when the splash screen appears.

I would take the audio into Audition and check the phase, make sure there isn’t a phase problem cancelling out. You could also try – in PPro – CTRL-Click clip in bin and Modify Audio Channels. Make it 2 channel mono. See what happens.

If you are on a PC, you won’t have any ProRes option, anywhere. If you are on a Mac, I know my PPro defaults to ARRI Cinema as a matching sequence setting for ProRes HQ files. As Ann posted, if you have a ProRes file, drag it onto the New Item icon and it will make a sequence to match.
