Hard to say… at first sounds like it could be drivers. But does that computer have all the extra Nvidia junk that they like to load on?

  • If you are using Dynamic Link and did a preview render in PPro, then yes, it will go away when you add anything on top of that layer. You may want to render it in AE and bring in the rendered file.

Could be the clips you are trying to play have conformed yet. Let it sit, and wait until it’s done. Like today, are you still having issues?

Rod – have you thought about using something better than Powerpoint? Like ProPresenter? I believe you can set it up to crop the 16:9 video the way you need. And you can import your PowerPoint presentations into it. I’ve used it at my church.

I will say, with the latest version of ProPresenter (version 6), I had issues running the video smoothly full-screen on the same computer that the presentation was running on. It could have just been the setup, but I’ve used it in the past quite successfully that same way with version 5. Renewed Vision seems to be pretty quick to respond to any issues.
    Good Luck!

  • I just can’t help wondering if at any point in the process, there isn’t something trying to play lower field first. Or if there is any kind of 3:2 pulldown on the video at some point.
Source video is upper, sequence is upper, export is upper? Have you tried lower, just for s**ts and giggles? I’ve had info show incorrectly before.

I’m afraid Dave is right. Even if the new PPro version works better with the variable rates, the plugins may still have difficulty. You may want to convert to something a little friendlier. Give Handbrake a try or you can try transcoding with AME and see if you get something in sync, then apply effects.

Just curious… your footage sample rate is 44100, or sequence rate, or both? Video usually has a sample rate of 48000. Just wondering if you purposely chose 44100.

It sounds like PPro is using the default time for still images as your default for footage. Because I’ve never seen anything like that except on still images. That is a PPro preference. I would try trashing the preferences, see if that helps.
    Good Luck!

As others pointed out, h264 is highly compressed. Can’t really compare it too much to DCP or even ProRes. But you should be able to get “decent” quality from it. One thing that would be helpful is if you could post a screen shot of your export settings, complete with your sequence settings. Otherwise it’s just guesswork as to what might be happening with your h264 renders.
