Basically I am editing someone else’s short film, and the video files he gave me have no sound in Premiere Pro. Does anyone know why this?

The sound on the audio tracks is turned on. But even when I play the video clip from the project panel, and play it in the source monitor, there is no sound there either.

If I play the original video files with windows media player or VLC media player, there is sound there, but once brought into Premiere Pro, the program rejects the sound, and there is no sound waveforms on the soundtrack even. Is there a way to get Premiere to accept the sound? The videos are listed as MP4 format in the properties.

There is some kind of modulation on the meter?

No, no modulation at all. But outside of Premiere, it plays just fine.

Premiere does however say that it’s ‘conforming’, all the video clips, but it’s taking forever compared to usual. So could this be a conforming problem?

Could be the clips you are trying to play have conformed yet. Let it sit, and wait until it’s done. Like today, are you still having issues?
