How fast is your miniSD card? Then what can the slot on the projector handle? MiniSD is generally slow speed. Even 150MBs is a lot for one of those cards.

I keep project and media on fast external array. Everything together, easy to archive.

Might want to post a little more info – maybe a sample of the “grit”. A screen shot of your AE screen would be good too. It’s hard to say what this “grittiness” may be without something to go on.

Yes. You are best off using AE to accomplish this.

Video A on layer 1, PNG sequence on layer 2 above the outgoing part of layer 1. Add Track Matte to layer 1, select layer 2 as the matte.
Copy layer 2 to layer 4, so that they are at same location in sequence. Add incoming video B to layer 3. Add track matte to layer 3, select layer 4 as the matte and revers the matte.
I’m not sure how your matte works, so you may need to revers the outgoing and not revers the incoming. But that should do what you need.

You can try keyframing til the cows come home and not get a smooth, acceptable result. AfterEffects motion tracker would be the way to go. Don’t have AE? Then you’ll want to come up with another option. Veteran editors use AE.

Some questions yet….
1. What is your external drive connected with?
2. Is your footage 60 / 41 / or variable frame rate?
3. Where did this footage originate?
4. Any other info about the file? Container (mov/mp4/mxf) or Codec (h264/Animation/ProRes)This will go a long way in helping you out.

What is your final destination? Taking it into an NLE? I would check there, not with a media player. Some may not show alpha channels, some may show premultiplied incorrectly, where you can see all the edge junk. Check in your NLE.
