If you created the sequence before you set up your prefs to display waveforms, they won’t display without changing the timeline settings. (Click the small triangle near the bottom left of your timeline to change settings for that timeline.)

Any new sequence you start after changing your prefs should dislpay the waveforms though… If they don’t look at re-sizing your tracks as boogiesan described.

Wow! I bought that plugin pack years ago but I think it was only like $100 or so. Check out Magic Bullet Look Suite. I think they may have a free demo, but I bet it will be watermarked. You are probably going to have to pay for a “decent” film plugin, though. You could also check the apple site… Sometimes some really cool freebies there.

  • Cleaner is a discreet product, and best I can tell is what they are talking about in that article. I have no idea what version of FCP that was written for, but as you can tell from the screen pictures it was from OS 9 or earlier so it’s pretty old. The article said “Using FCP and Media Cleaner EZ that came in your FCP package we will make a QT movie for the web.” but Cleaner hasn’t shipped with FCP for several versions at least. So where does that leave you?

If you are looking for a solution without buying any additional software, your best bet is going to be Compressor, which DOES ship with FCP (version 4+ of course). It also comes with DVDSP. Give Compressor a try with one of it’s web settings, and see if you can get the filesize down lower than what you were getting from QuickTime alone (it tweaks alot of settings for you if you are unsure about things).

As far as an address for streaming… You will have to have a website that you can upload your movie to for it to stream. The address is whatever website you have access to (i.e. personal web log, .Mac page) that offers streaming video. Now, if you don’t have access to something like this, then you will probably have to email your video as an attachment. This is where you will really have to work to get your file size down. You may be able to do it with Compressor, but this is where another program (like Sorenson Squeeze) really pays for itself if this is something that you will have to do alot. I have to email QuickTimes of finished spots every day and Squeeze really helps out with that.

    Good luck!

You might want to use After Effects or combustion for the scaling. Not sure what version of FCP you are on but the scaling in general is pretty lossy. I’ve heard that version 5 is much better, but perhaps still not as good as using AE. Good luck!

  • I’ve found that Sorenson Squeeze works much better than Cleaner IMHO, but it costs to buy the program. I am able to stream a 1:30 trailer myself by using Squeeze, and after tweaking the settings I got it to right under 8 meg. Here’s a link if you want to check out the quality.

No, the XL1 actually does shoot anamorphic video. If you were to just plug in the video RCA to a TV you would see a 4:3 image that is streched vertically (which is anamorphic). That much I can say with certainty.

move the clip from the viewer to your timeline. I think somehow you were putting markers on the clip that is in your viewer.

Not really sure man… Is your canvas window “rectangle” rather than “square”? If it is then everything should be OK. It sounds almost like the camera used a different aspect ration, but I don’t think that is possible.

    X-Raid is hard drives.
    X-Serve is a server (processor).

You just need the XRaid as storage most likely.

10 or 8-bit describes the quality of image sampling. You should know which one you are using based on capture or sequence settings.
