I like the WD3200AAKS personally, 320GB but should fit all feature length DCPs. It’s a server-class/AV HDD so it’s used to constant access and constant read operations (no overheating issues etc, better reliability compare to normal consumer drives). I’m sure there are 500/640GB versions or even newer generations you can use.
Use a CRU-DataPort StorCase DataExpress DX115 DC 6600-7100-0500 / 6606-5000-0500 Carrier+Frame for the enclosure. All cinema accept that.
Good luck.

Why not paint the wall grey? Get Dulux ‘6000N’ mixed at your local hardware store. That is 18% grey, the same as a grey card. Don’t use off the shelf grey paint as it usually has a little blue in it (from the white they use). Lighting levels depends on your monitoring (specifically the amount of light coming out of the monitor). There’s calculations out there for conversions. 18% grey lit ‘dimly’ with 6500K light works for most scenarios in my experience. Dimmable 6500K LED’s would be nice.
Good luck.

Hi Eric,
You’ve contradicted yourself a little here. In the standard candle thread you said;
“GPU-Xpander Pro2 / Desktop 2 was limited to 40Gbps on 4-slot configurations, even with PCIe x16 HIC (Host Interface Card) connections to Mac Pro’s x16 slot. Desktop 4, with the Cubix part numbers referenced by DaVinci with the release of Resolve 8, natively supports 80Gbps bandwidth. This same 80Gbps 4-slot PCIe backplane is also used with the GPU-Xpander Rackmount 8 model (2 of them in a 4U rackmount enclosure).”
and here you said;
“Alternatively, GPU-Xpander Desktop 2 with the dual double-wide slots (not 4x single-wide slots) does support a full 80Gbps connection”
Did you mean does’NT support 80Gbps?
Also, does this necessarily matter if the enclosure is used for I/O and/or RedRocket, or even GPU (say 2x GTX 480’s)?
Thanks,
Toby

August 9, 2011 at 9:00 am in reply to: Monitor advice – Sony OLED PVM-2541 vs. JVC DT-V24G11Z vs. FSI LM-2461WHi guys,
I’m also considering a new HD monitor. I’m torn between the FSI LM-2461W and the Sony PVM-2541. Can anyone clarify which would be best for colour critical reference, for work up to DCP and film-out (although I’ve been working in Rec709 and using LUT’s for DCP/Film outs with great results, so a very accurat rec709 set up might ‘do’)
Thanks,
Toby

Because we will be using a MacPro soon and will need the Cubix, the hackintosh is a stopgap until we get another MacPro (the one we have is being used for protools for sound). Also, if we do build a new hackintosh it will be a LGA 2011 build at the end of the year, which looks to be the first consumer-priced dual CPU (dual QPI) socket, and will have plenty of pci-e slots by the looks of the concept mobos out there (I know EVGA had a dual cpu lga 2011 board in the works).
Either way we have our reasons to get the Cubix…but will it work!? (-;
Thanks,

That’s odd, that file wasn’t there before, but it is now, after several ‘refresh list’ clicks in the LUT tab and several restarts of DV.
Thanks!
p.s. Anyone want to share a RedLogFilm to RedGamma/RedColor2 LUT?
