Just curious if you NEED to use xpresso to make the lights blink? Not sure what the ultimate use is, but could you use the track after function in the animation window to cause the lights to blink? It’s sort of like the loopOut expression in After Effects. It’s nice because you only have to create a couple of key frames and then tell it to repeat it.

Just curious. I love xpresso, but if there is an easier way, I’m all for it.

As Greg says, according to your image, you are only setting this red color in the reflection tab. You have Color AND Reflection active, but since I can’t see what your color settings are on the Color tab, I have to assume it is the default gray.

In order to use the exact red you have here, you can grab the color swatch and drag it over the word Color at the top of your material editor, once it switches to that tab, you can drop the color onto the color swatch there.

Let me know if that doesn’t make sense…

You could try turning off open GL. Hold down the shift key while starting C4D.

You could use a Plain Effector to move the letters off stage, make the falloff linear and then animate the effector to bring one letter at a time onto stage.

  • Digital Obscura here in San Francisco (and other cities) do quite a bit of this.

I’m not sure if they would be willing to share their methodology, but it doesn’t hurt to contact them:

Can you post a file for me to take a look at?

Hard to tell what could be going on without seeing it.

You could try trashing the prefs for cinema4d. Faster than reinstalling. Quit out, trash prefs and start C4D again.

In your render settings, do you have your anti-aliasing set to BEST?

As for adjusting the noise, there are plenty of settings there to adjust the noise. Are you going for the look of fog, or something else?

You could add noise on the noise tab of your volumetric light. Nice thing is it can be animated as well.
