[Noah Kadner] “Nope.
Noah”
And who says a PICTURE is worth a thousand words?
Too funny (at least to me).
Cheers,

Do you really wanna risk your camera in this way? What’s the point?
I’m genuinely curious.

Simply put the three DVX cameras “side-by-side”. Using the remote control, set all three to “free run”, then set your timecode.
This seems the “standard” workflow for synching timecode. I’ve used it, and it works.
Can’t get cheaper than that, can it?

What was your iris set at? As you may know, a “wide-open” iris will reduce depth of field, resulting in soft focus……….
Please let us know what you find out.

Do a Google search for “Sound Effects” and you’ll be surprised at the number of “free” sites that come up.
Google….Your friend and mine (unless you own their stock).

[Christopher Pavsek] “I’ve noticed recently that my relatively new DVX100a makes an odd sort of grinding or low-level whirring noise when using autofocus. it’s loud enough to be noticed by someone 10 feet away. is this normal?”
If you’re hearing from such a distance, I’d stop using it and have the camera serviced. It ought to be fairly quiet.
On a related note, one of the “liberating” consequences of the DV revolution is the ability of anyone to have one of these cameras, perhaps with “different” levels of knowledge amongst the users. This leads to all manner of, how shall I say, asthetic quality.
In my mind, and 20+ years a videographer, there simply isn’t a need to use auto focus. All you need do is ZOOM IN AND FOCUS on your subject, and that subject will always be in focus if the distance between the subject and camera doesn’t change.
As for “chasing the kids around the house”, just stay wide, and you’ll ALWAYS be in focus, unless one of them wants to blow their nose on your camera. And certainly, if you feel the need to zoom, determine the general distance between the subject and the camera, then ZOOM IN AND FOCUS on a subject at the far end of that distance (maybe 10-15 fee), and you’ll have plenty of focal length to “play” with.
Or so I think,

I’m not an expert by any stretch of my considerable imagination, but….are your two versions of Media 100 in some sort of conflict? Did you try uninstalling your v.8.whatever?
Perhaps you ought wait to see what others have to say….
Good luck,

If you’re using just the SD function on the camera, then yes, you should be fine bringing either 24P or 30I into your NLE. In fact, I’ve used my DVX-100A for some stuff and brought that footage (shot in 24p) into my “legacy” M100 system (v.6) with no problem. Using the HD features is another story, but you didn’t say if you’re going to use HD.
Any DV player/recorder should allow playback of your material. Your 24p is still a video DV signal, and it’s treated that way throughout a “traditional” video production process.

I’m using Avid Media Composer v1.6. It is being brought in as a Quicktime Reference.
I will say, as an update, that we changed target directory and drive, and have now been able to compress the spot for use as a DVD.
Go figure.
Thanks for your consideration,

Yeah, what Noah said 😉
I ordered the DVX battery and have been VERY happy with it’s lifespan over the course of a single charge.
As someone who spent some time running from all sorts of wild animals with 20 lbs of Anton-Bauer batteries strapped to my waist (not to mention the camera!), these batteries are well worth the $$!
