    Greetings one and all,

In two weeks, we are using three DVX-100a’s to shoot a dance event. For post, it will be vital to have synched time code, since we’ll be shooting hours and hours of footage and will want to cut to different angles during the dance routines.

Is there a tool (a synch box of sorts) that can be rented to synch the three cameras together?

If not, would setting the FREE RUN function on the time code of each camera do the trick?

Barring that, any cheap and dirty suggestions for — at the very least — giving us a fighting chance in post-production?

As always, I appreciate the input. Thanks, one and all.

    Best,

    Kevin

Simply put the three DVX cameras “side-by-side”. Using the remote control, set all three to “free run”, then set your timecode.

This seems the “standard” workflow for synching timecode. I’ve used it, and it works.

Can’t get cheaper than that, can it?

Thanks Tim. That’s a big help — I wouldn’t have thought of this — and it beats renting…

    Tim,

I’ve tried syncing time code on two cameras in free run, using the remote. But can’t figure out the actual re-setting of time code with the remote.

Which view on the flip-out camera LCD should I be looking at?
And what buttons do I use on the remote? Using the remote button “counter” I can toggle between several time code related counters: the continuously moving TC 11:12:00:00, for example, or UB or FR 24P with the moving frame rate, and a counter with just the hrs:min:sec (0:00:00) and the same view with an M in front of it (M 00:00:00)

What view do I look at on the LCD, and what button do I push on the remote???

I know there is probably a simple answer, but the road has many forks.
    Cheers,
    Damian

Sorry I waited till the last minute. I have Noah’s DVD for the DVX100 (which has helped a lot in the past), and I thought it was going to be a piece of cake to get both cameras TC to reset in free run. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. When I press the counter on either the camera or the remote, I can toggle between the different time stamps, but I don’t seem able to reset the code on both cameras.
    What am I missing???
Seems like the original questioner couldn’t figure it out either (eyecandy) and there was no final help.
I need to reset for a shoot tomorrow morning.
    Help!!!
