Gel Power for DVX100
Posted by Michael Brown on April 17, 2006 at 7:47 pmI’m thinking about using a 12v gel-type battery for our DVX100. However, I know from the manual that it takes 7.9 volts. Are there any handy converters I can use to step this down?

April 18, 2006 at 2:00 pmHmm, you might be happier using a small 110v inverter plugged into the Gell, then use the 110 power attachment for the DVX. Then everyting is off the shelf hook up.

April 18, 2006 at 8:42 pmDo you really wanna risk your camera in this way? What’s the point?
I’m genuinely curious.

April 19, 2006 at 11:53 amThe point is very long running times (all day) without AC power. The battery would power a small LCD monitor as well.
Stepping down the 12v would require building a voltage regulator, and that may not be worth the benefit. Such things are available for Sony, Canon, but not for the DVX100 however.Mike Brown

April 19, 2006 at 4:45 pmThink about the Gel to inverter to the DVX 110 adapter. I have it, I’ve done it and it works. I have a Dryfit Gell battery (About the size of a motorcycle or riding mower battery or slightly bigger),that I used to run my Arriflex all day long on location. So I took it along when shooting DVX outdoor interviews for the best part of the day. It stays on the cart and gets rolled around. Also I run a small sony monitor to check setup etc., off the inverter. My 2cents worth.
