I have a project coming up that will require me to use a small format camera and my DP wants to try the JVC GY-HD 100V. I’m not on an HD Media 100 system but am using the last top of the line system they offered. Can I digitze 24p DVCam footage from this camera into the Media 100 without any problem? Will a standard Sony DVCam deck play the tapes or will I have to digitze from the camera itself? Can I mix 24p footage with none 24p footage in the same program because there will be archival footage that isn’t 24p?

    Thanks!

If you’re using just the SD function on the camera, then yes, you should be fine bringing either 24P or 30I into your NLE. In fact, I’ve used my DVX-100A for some stuff and brought that footage (shot in 24p) into my “legacy” M100 system (v.6) with no problem. Using the HD features is another story, but you didn’t say if you’re going to use HD.

Any DV player/recorder should allow playback of your material. Your 24p is still a video DV signal, and it’s treated that way throughout a “traditional” video production process.

    Cheers,

To clarify, I will be using the SD function on the camera not HDV and I believe my Media 100 has version 8. software.

    Muchos gracias,
