Amen.
Tim (who seems to have learned every important lesson – the hard way)
BTW, I bought your book a while ago and love it. Short, sweet and to the point. Lots of great info to quickly get up-to-speed on audio for video.

I do a lot of photo montage work. I use Canopus’ Imaginate 2.0. It operates as a standalone (as I use it) and also a plug-in to Premiere. It’s much faster and in my opinion, superior quality, to trying to do it within Premiere. Lots of control of panning, zooming and Z-axis control. I know there’s another popular one call Moving Pictures but I don’t have any experience with that one.

Hello Ty,
How would you rate the SignVideo ENG-44 against the Sound Devices 302? The SD 302 is more than twice the price, but if it’s that much better, then it’s worth it. I’m also going to ante up for the Schoeps, as you have often recommended in this forum. I’m tired of fighting with inferior gear. Thanks for all the help!

I completely agree with both your and Tim Wilson’s comments. I’ll just throw in my $.02 if for no other reason than to add one more “Tim” to the mix…
One thing I would rent if available and affordable would be some studio space that’s already professionally decked out for chromakey. Perhaps one room with Reflecmedia curtains (both hanging and on the floor), light-rings, etc. Maybe another room with a more traditional setup with well-balanced lighting. Anyway, I have neither the space nor the budget to create this but I do shoot chromakey more and more often these days.
Thoughts?
And you’re right, this probably belongs more in the business forum than here.

David,
Just curious, what scan converter are you using? Thanks.

Todd,
I’d really recommend that you send your editors to a Matrox Axio demo. It is really impressive stuff. Lots of real time capability in both HD and SD. I went thru the same frustrations in the past with all the same crappola (Pinnacle cards, Matrox RT.X, etc.) that probably poisoned your editors’ opinions – and mine was pretty bad as well. But, if you do want to stick with Premiere, the Axio line is by far, the most productive environment. –naturally, my opinion of course. I’m pretty sure that Axio-based systems must be sold turnkey by authorized dealers. The demo I saw used HP workstation class systems. I am putting one in the budget for next year. I expect that it will save me LOADS of time — and this coming from a guy who previously swore off hardware solutions. Good luck to you.

I’m going to wait a few more days to see if anyone has any advice on this issue before I try. I’m always hesitant to ‘fix’ things that aren’t necessarily broken…

Agreed. I’ve found that the workflow that produces the most compatibility with the most players is exactly what you said. My workflow is to use Encore to create an ISO file of the DVD and then burn DVDs using ImgBurn 1.3 (www.imgburn.com) and of course using high-quality media @ 4x maximum speed.

Thanks. I’ll have to give it a shot & try it out on the ADVC-300. It’s pretty rare that I need to do that – but once in a while a client has something internally produced that is CSS encoded but it’s nice to have a method just in case.

Alex,
Just curious – do you know if that 10 second trick works on the ADVC-300 as well? Thanks.
