Thanks, Mike. I was going nutso with this digging through keyboard shortcuts in AE and iTunes.

The effect looks like “BCC Halftone” (Boris Continuum Complete). Not sure if you can buy it separately from BorisFX or not. BCC is a great plug-in set.

  • Check out Newtek’s TriCaster. Stand-alone box, though, and around $5K I believe. Three or four inputs plus iVGA from your Mac. Can’t remember all the specs on it. Go to http://www.newtek.com and look under the TriCaster section.

Lots of masks and vector content are in some of these. It’s a pretty cool effect. Not sure what they’re using on some of the morphing-type stuff.

  • Did you need the grain features in C2? I generally turn those way down or off, but I do like their pull-down, time slur, etc. I will look into Continuum. Thanks for the heads-up, man.

  • Walter–

I don’t have Continuum Complete to compare it to. I just loaded both (CineLook 2 and Magic Bullet Suite 2.1) on the same system and compared. For me, C2 didn’t seem much like a render hog. Bang for the buck, I thought it did a pretty decent job. I’m not necessarily using it for break-neck deadlines, though. I set up about 20 minutes worth of footage to render overnight, and it was done by the time I checked on it.

With regards to your solution in Continuum Complete–does it have a 3:2 introduction solution, or are you using AE’s? Were you already shooting 24p? Did the results work out well for you? I’d be interested to find out how you did it.

    Thanks,

  • Barend–

I was using just a single Xeon processor system on an SD project. I did not have GPU enabled. I will try to go back and see if my card can handle it. (It’s three years old–I’m not holding my breath.)

Man, that’s a HUGE difference in render times. Thanks for bringing this up.

I’ve had some issues with AE 7 using Premiere Pro 2-captured HDV native clips. I ran into all sorts of GOP-related hiccups when using the mpegs w/in AE 7. I now capture HDV in PPro, then render out to another codec within PPro for use in AE.
