Sometimes I capture VHS through an old VHS camcorder that has s-video out. I play the tape on the camcorder > S-Video to an external firewire capture deck > into editing software (when I did this it was FCP, but I’m sure Vegas would see the deck in the same way, as it’s firewire.)

If your footage is good/important, I recommend capturing it through S-Video somehow rather than composite (the RCA). Maybe there is no difference at that low resolution format, but to my eyes the S-Video looked better. Can anybody else confirm or dismiss this idea from a technical standpoint?

Does your usb capture device happen to a have a S-Video input? If it does you could probably buy an old VHS camcorder that has an S-Video output real cheap at a second hand store. This is a little off topic regarding what you were asking (as it still wouldn’t allow you to capture directly into Vegas) but might help you capture better quality video : )

hey Guys,

I ended up just cutting out the 2 of 11 clips, as they needed the video really fast.

I appreciate all the great suggestions though and will go back and experiment with all of them. Good tools to have for future productions. Much appreciated!!

I noticed John mention that in a previous thread.. I had already copied over the .VOB to a folder, and tried to navigate to that folder through the DVD / Camcorder disk aread to no avail..

I’ll try and do it from the original disc now.

Got my problems with the 25p fixed (I think) by un checking the ‘let media influence frame rate’ box in render settings.. Not 100% sure

hi again..
so I think I’ve found the issues with the sync.

I have a media clip that I exported from cinema 4D, which is a title sequence with an alpha channel, at 25p.

When I export sections of the video that don’t contain the alpha/25p clip, it’s in sync, but when I export the whole video, everything after the 25 p clip is a little off.

I know the ideal thing is go back and re-export the alpha clip at 29.97, but, before doing that, any tips on ways to render without the one strange clip affecting the whole render?

Do you have any preference on Main Concept VS Sony when it comes to AVC?

Also, if I open the Sony AVC 1080 template and change the resolution down to 720, should I also change the data rate?
