  • Hey Wayne,

I didn’t realize a clip didn’t have to be selected when auto-ripple was engaged.

That’s a super helpful tip. Thanks Much!

  • So,
for anyone else who has ever struggled with the same thing, not five minutes after posting I seems to have realized what I was missing. I feel pretty silly actually.

If one’s fingers are on the “[ ]” keys, those keys will select start / end of clips. So all I needed to do was click those keys a few time to select the clip I wanted. I’ve taken my hand off to select the next clip via mouse 1000s of times. But never again!

Isn’t it funny when you post looking for help, and find the answer has been right under your fingers the whole time?

  • John,

Thanks for checking on your Vegas 12 build.. Much appreciated.

I *think* I’ve got it solved, and had actually missed a setting regarding grouping and copy / paste commands (see above).

Hopefully this toggle function will come in handy on future edits 🙂

  • John,

Thanks very much for trying that out. It makes me think it’s a software glitch, rather than a setting I’m missing, as the issue persists even after engaging and disengaging the ‘ignore event grouping button’ for me.

I’m on 12 (build 670), so will probably try a uninstall / re-install after this project, and an update if that doesn’t work.

    Thanks again,

    t.

    edit*

After a little more searching, I found the setting:

Preference > editing > “Cut, Copy and delete Grouped Events” was OFF

I don’t know how I missed that. I supposed I should have searched harder before! Hopefully it will help someone else..

  • Hi John,

I do seem to be able to click on just the video, and drag it left or right (the audio comes with). I’m also able to click once (either the video or audio track) and nudge it one frame with 1/3 numeric keys (both move).

So yes, it seems only to do with the cut and paste.

Can you verify this on your system? (ie. you click the video track once, copy and paste, and only the video pastes – without audio, unless you ctrl+click both before copying)?

Just read this on another forum

“I love the idea of being able to copy and trim the media with the project, but from reading the documentation, it looks like the trim feature only works with DV AVI, uncompressed AVI, and YUV AVI files.

Anyone know if this is what I’m talking about?

I’m trying to render to a QuickTime codec.
